Designing the decoration of a baby room can be a difficult task, especially if the room is for your first child. Although there are many things to consider while choosing baby room furniture, you are usually left with very short time.
The baby room decorating should provide a safe environment for your beloved one. Don’t stuff the room with furniture and try to maximize its empty space. Before looking for any furniture sets, you must choose the baby room paint. Before starting your shopping trip, accurately measure the dimensions of the room and write it down on a small piece of paper. These measurements will be indispensible when shopping for paint, cribs and other pieces of furniture.

Try to make a draft of the nursery room layout. An important tip is to place the baby’s crib as close to the entrance as possible. This position of the crib guarantees you won’t stumble upon pieces of furniture, when you rush for your baby in the middle of the night. It is also wise to place the diaper changing table near your baby’s crib, so that you won’t have to carry him/her across the nursery room, when he/she has a wet accident. Consider placing a glider, or a rocking chair next to the window, if there is any. Always plan your baby’s storage place to accommodate many items, as babies accumulate more items than you might think. Don’t ever place shelves above the baby’s crib, as objects can fall causing accidents.
When choosing your baby’s crib, pick a crib that is approved by the Federal Safety regulations and Industry Voluntary Standards (ASTM). Safety of your baby should be your first concern. Moreover, consider the durability, style, shape and finish of the crib. Always choose a crib with vertical slats, so that your baby can’t use these slats to climb out of the crib. Also, these slats mustn’t be so wide to permit passage of your baby’s head.
Look for other pieces of furniture for your baby’s room. The most important pieces include; a comfortable chair, a diaper changing table, a nursery hamper, a night stand and a clock, especially if you are going to breast feed your baby. Always put in your mind that your baby will soon by walking around his room exploring the surrounding furniture, so choose nursery furniture that can easily be secured to be childproof. Secure drawers using nylon straps or L shaped brackets.
Don’t forget to select a near bedtime dim lighting. It has been proved that it is better to turn off all light sources in the room, once the baby settles down to sleep. Before painting the room, you should run the necessary wiring. Options include a sconce, a dimmer switch, a nightlight or a chandelier.
Adding a block out to the curtains of your baby’s nursery is essential for your baby to sleep well during the day, especially if the sun directly shines into the window.
